Phoebe Brand was an American actress. Brand was born in upstate New York in 1907. She eventually moved to New York City and became an actress. Brand was an original member of the Group Theatre. Brand summered at Pine Brook Country Club in Nichols, Connecticut, with the Group Theatre in 1936. She married Shakespearean actor and fellow Group Theatre member Morris Carnovsky in 1941, and had one child, Stephen Carnovsky. She was blacklisted in the McCarthy era. Brand taught acting in New York into her 90s. She died in New York City on July 3, 2004, at the age of 99, from pneumonia
