Omar Parada

Omar Gregorio Parada (1922-1987) was a Uruguayan filmmaker. He was director member of Cine Universitario del Uruguay (1972-73 and 1974-75). Parada was also a member of Grupo de Cine Montevideo. In Buenos Aires contributed to the organization and programming of Cine Club Amigos de Cinemateca Argentina. He wrote and directed five films: documentaires and fiction short films in16 mm. Parada's work is representative of Uruguayan cinema during the period 1950-1970. He made several shorts: A Holiday (Un feriado, 1952), Miguelete: Heads and Tails of a Stream (Miguelete: cara y cruz de un arroyo, 1952), Topic of Illness and Death (Tema de enfermedad y muerte, 1953) and Maybe Tomorrow (Tal vez mañana, 1966). Miguelete is considered one of the first documentary about contaminated water in Uruguay (Ecology). Maybe Tomorrow (Tal vez mañana), a science fiction film, was awarded as the best film of Uruguay in 1966 (Asociación de Críticos Cinematográficos del Uruguay).

Montevideo Today (Montevideo hoy, 1968-1972), a documentary film about the political and social reality of Uruguay, was abducted by the military dictatorship (1973-1985) and is now lost.
