Homme de théâtre, il commence d'abord des études de médecine qu'il abandonne rapidement tout en s'inscrivant aux cours de théâtre de René Simon. Après son service militaire, il décide de se consacrer à la comédie. Il se dirige rapidement vers le cinéma et la télévision dès le début des années 1960. Il est surtout connu du grand public pour avoir incarné Tanguy dans la série télévisée Les Chevaliers du ciel (Christian Marin était Laverdure), mais aussi pour avoir été Antoine Delorme dans La Princesse du rail
