George Sweeney is a British film and television actor who commenced his acting career in the 1970s. He is most famous for appearing in 2 episodes of The Sweeney, as the villainous violent criminal Tim Cook, a character with a very short temper, who had a hatred of women and an even stronger hatred of Irish people. Sweeney has numerous television credits, including Z-Cars, Rumpole of the Bailey, Dixon of Dock Green, Softly, Softly, The New Avengers, The Sweeney, Return of the Saint, Spearhead, Citizen Smith, Fairground, Remington Steele, Matlock, Jack the Ripper as John Netley, Minder, The Brittas Empire, The Bill and Casualty. His film appearances include The Best Pair of Legs in the Business, The Bitch, For Your Eyes Only and Without a Clue. Sweeney lived in Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire with his wife Lesley but has recently relocated to Welwyn Village. He has two sons and five grandchildren
