Though not the first film to be produced in Ceylon, Rokava was the first Ceylonese effort to gain a European release. Also known as Destiny, the film concentrates on the misadventures of a young boy. When he apparently cures a playmate of blindness, the boy is lauded as an emissary of God. Ultimately, however, the villagers come to believe that the lad is possessed by darker forces, and accordingly set about to "exorcise" him by any means available. Dharma Priya delivers a sincere, unaffected performance as the central character.
