The story of a guy who, through a series of bizarre coincidences, winds up just missing a plane that subsequently crashes, killing everyone aboard. Having previously been a devout atheist, he now decides that there is a God, and that God spared him for some grand purpose; this transforms him into an insufferable prick, and the bulk of the movie is told from the point of view of his wife, a high school teacher who teams up with one of her students to manufacture coincidences around him in the hope of snapping him out of it.
