Set in Paris (which looks more like Budapest), the story concerns a murder investigation conducted by one Judge Henri Tessier (Ferenc Kiss). The audience is led to believe that Robert Petrovich (Theodore Usay), estranged husband of Tessier's sweetheart Marion (Maria Tasmady), is responsible for the murder. The actual culprit manages to tipp his hand at the very end, but it hardly matters: Petrovich wins his freedom, but loses his bride.
