French director Jacques Doillon weaves a poetic tale of determination in this movie about Talia (Stephanie Touly), a 13-year-old who takes to the streets with her dog, Kim, after her stepfather makes a move on her. Soon, she meets up with a scrappy group of boys who seem both protective and predatory. When they sell her pet for money, an act for which they feel ashamed later, Talia must dig in and find new strength so she can get Kim back.
