Chor Yuen's The House of 72 Tenants was a huge box office hit in 1973. Shaw Brothers took the main ingredients from that film and quickly cooked up Hong Kong 1973, which shares much of the same principal cast and, like '72 Tenants', is also chock full of cameos. The emphasis here is on the financial straits of Hong Kong's middle class.
